I’m going to be honest with you and admit that from time to time I get sucked into a TV marathon. Don’t worry; I do try to learn something so it’s not a complete waste of time! Recently this happened with several episodes of Undercover Boss.
By the second episode I noticed a few patterns. A few more episodes and the messages became clear. No matter what size the company, the CEO faced similar revelations.
You’re an entrepreneur as you pursue your creative endeavors. With everything you do as you pursue your goals, it’s easy to get busy with the day-to-day and forget that you are the CEO of your art and your life.
As you read the tips below, think about how the CEO version of you is treating the worker bee version of you.
A creative routine may sound like an oxymoron. It also sounds like something that is always just a little bit out of reach. Do you have a dream creative routine that exists in your mind, but rarely happens in real life?
Guess what? I don't think anyone is satisfied with their current creative habits.
Just about every client I have tells me that this is their biggest challenge.
I want to help you regain control of your creative routine. So, how do we do that?
Last weekend, I was hiking at Point Magu in Malibu. As we made our way along the trail I kept seeing burned plants. It is hard to miss black branches and dead cacti. But when I looked a little closer, each plant was also growing. Sometimes nature needs to destroy before it can create.
This lesson jumped out at me because I've been going through the same transition! Lately I have been getting rid of things that just aren't working for me anymore. It's both fun and challenging to focus on creating more of what I do want in my life.
One thing that sparked this round of re-focusing for me is a very popular book. Have you ever heard about a book or a movie so much that you just had to check it out? About a month ago I started reading one of those books- "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo (on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1TyCsNm).
A major change I have noticed is that now when I look at my closet, I don't waste time or mental energy saying "no, no, no," or thinking negative thoughts about clothes I don't like. Now I only see "yes" clothes and fun ways to put it all together. A much better and refreshing way to start the day!

On Tuesday night I was just about having a heart attack watching the end of Game 6 in the NBA playoffs. Cleveland Cavaliers vs the Golden State Warriors.
I'm not a huge sports fan but I do love basketball. It's a sport I can understand. This is probably because I cheered for basketball for seven years. Oh yes... 8th grade, all 4 years of high school, and 2 years in college. But we'll cover some life lessons I learned from cheerleading another day.
For now, back to basketball. The other thing you need to know about my emotional involvement with this particular game is that I grew up about an hour south of Cleveland. I've been a Cavs fan my entire life and my social media feeds have been bursting throughout this entire series.
Game 6 was crucial. If the Cavs lose, it's over. If they win, they still have to win Game 7 to win the series. It was a close game and the last few minutes were a roller coaster of hope and disappointment.
What does this have to do with being creative and bringing your project into the world?
